The Kolkata Port, which has been renamed Syama Prasad Mookerjee, has a new chairman in Rathendra Raman, a member of the 1995 batch of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS).

The Kolkata Port, now known as the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP), has appointed Rathendra Raman, a member of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) 1995 batch, as its new chairman. He was the Chief Freight Traffic Manager (CFTM) for the South Eastern Railway before to taking on his new position.

Raman met with senior representatives from the Haldia Dock Complex and the Kolkata Dock System in his new role to discuss issues pertaining to the port.

Raman has received accolades for his excellent work, including four times receiving the general manager’s medal and a medal from the minister of the railways in 2006.

Formerly employed by the Container Corporation of India as the Chief General Manager of the Eastern Region, he set a number of important milestones there, including the first container train movement to Bangladesh and container transportation to Nepal via the Jogbani and Bathnaha Rail Terminal.
